Year in Review: 2010
January:
As we usually do, we started the new year off at the cabin. While there, we went on lots of little hikes and visited the John Campbell Folk School.
The next week, we spent a long (MLK) weekend at Myrtle Beach with friends for Camille’s late “destination birthday” present, a couple of days at Magiquest.
We rounded out the month with a four day trip to Cancun, accompanying Rob on a business trip.
February:
In February, the girls and I took a road trip to Washington, DC. We visited the Science Museum of Virginia, stayed in a cool hotel room, saw Rocknoceros at Jammin Java, saw Lucas Miller at the zoo ad saw The Verve Pipe at XM.
March:
We started March with a comedy of errors trip to the cabin.
The girls and I then took another weekend roadtrip to DC, where we saw (Grammy nominee!) Justin Roberts at XM and Jammin’ Java then spent a few hours at the Eastern Market.
Then, back up to the cabin for Spring Break, from where we took a daytrip to Knoxville to see, well, Justin Roberts.
April:
In mid-April, the girls and I had a wild roadtrip to Texas where we went to the Red Poppy Festival and to see The Biscuit Brothers at Austin’s Paramount Theater.
At the end of April, the girls and I, backpacks on our backs, flew up to NYC for a five day weekend. We went to Books of Wonder and Union Square as well as MoMA and to see Rhythm Child at the Sirius studio in Rockefeller Center.
May:
The first two days in May, we spent hanging out with our Kindie music friends in Brooklyn at Kindiefest. Chloe was awestruck that so many of her musical idols were staying in the same hotel as her!
While in NYC, we went to the Brooklyn Bridge and Coney Island for some Brooklyn-style fun. We also took the Staten Island Ferry in order to get a nice view of the Statue of Liberty.
A few days later, we were back in the car headed to just outside Asheville for a weekend of camping at the LEAF music festival with friends.
At the end of the month, we headed back up to the cabin for Arts in the Park.
June:
June brought us another trip to the cabin.
Then, it was off on our big summer trip to Turkey. In June, we visited Istanbul and Ankara.
July
July started out with us still on our big summer trip to Turkey. We spent time in Cappadocia, Selcuk (Ephesus) and Istanbul.
At the end of July, we spent a day in Alabama, visiting the US Space and Rocket Center.
We also spent a weekend at the cabin.
August:
In August, Rob, the girls and I spent a weekend at Panama City Beach, relaxing in the pool and in the gulf waters.
Later in the month, the girls and I headed up to Tennessee to spend a few days at the waterpark, Wilderness at the Smokies.
September:
In September, I flew, without the girls, out to California to hang out with my parents, my sister and her fiance.
In mid-September, the girls and I and some friends, drove down to Florida to spend two days at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Towards the end of the month, Rob, the girls and I flew up to Massachusetts to spend time with the cousins and go to a cool kindie concert.
October:
In October, the girls and I made our yearly pilgrimage to Texas for Austin City Limits.
Not long after we got back, we headed, once again to LEAF, near Asheville, NC.
And, finally, at the end of the month, it was time to head back to the cabin.
November
November first, it was time for me and the girls to head back to Texas. While there, we went to San Antonio, the zoo in Waco and more.
Back home for a couple days, then it was time to head of to the cabin for Thanksgiving.
December
We stayed home for most of December, but did take a short roadtrip to Florida after Christmas. We stayed one night in Cocoa Beach, visited the Kennedy Space Center, and spent time on the Gulf Coast as well.
