Photo Friday: Museum Reach Section of San Antonio’s Riverwalk

While we are in Texas for an extended stay, I figured I’d try to get the girls out to see more than just Zilker Park and Georgetown….

This past weekend, we headed down I-35 to San Antonio. I was shocked at how little I recognized along the Austin-SA corridor — so much has changed! Upon arrival in San Antonio, we were greeted by police, street closures and people milling about. Turns out we had stumbled onto the end of the Veterans’ Day Parade. While we were sad to have missed it, people leaving in droves meant that we were lucky enough to get a parking place on the street and avoid the exorbitant parking charges of the nearby lots. After dumping our stuff in the hotel, we ventured out to see a part of San Antonio that I’ve never seen….the river from downtown out to the zoo.

Museum Reach is a new section of San Antonio’s most popular tourist attraction, the Riverwalk. Unlike the “Loop” part of the walk, there are very few restaurants and shops along it…and not much in the way of crowds either, so we could spend time enjoying it instead of avoiding bumping into people. The landscaping is quite natural and beautiful, plus the walk and bridges feature diverse and interesting art installations. Halfway up the river, we stopped for a short time at the San Antonio Museum of Art, housed in the old Lone Star Brewery…

After our stop at the museum, we continued up the river almost to the end of the path, then turned around and walked all the way back down to the loop. It was a bit of a walk, and by the time we were done, my feet hurt and Chloe was bored. But, all in all, I’m glad we walked along the trail and had the chance to see all the art along the way!

This is an entry for Delicious Baby’s Photo Friday.
