Chloe’s week at Circus Camp involved lots of tightrope walking, literally and figuratively (see Circus, or is that Drama, Camp). Despite the drama, Chloe did have a great time and looks forward to going again next year and maybe even taking aerial lessons as she gets older and stronger.

Photo Friday – Summer Fun
Photo taken at a street vendor kiosk outside of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul on 11 Jul 2010. Yes, I realize that it is not Friday, but Thursday. However, I’ve decided to begin submitting my weekly contribution to the Photo Friday contest (not that my photos are in the same league with the other entries),…
Scenes from Our Garden
Flicks on 5th
Tuesday night , we went to the Stone Mountain Laser show. Last night, we headed out of the house again for another free show…Flicks on 5th, “a free outdoor summer film series at Technology Square”. I’d been searching the web for half an hour to find something to do and had resigned myself to an…
Lasers, Fireworks and Pyrotechnics
Lately I’ve been feeling like I’ve been in a terrible rut. I’m bored with the mountain of daily tasks I have to do. I’m bored of staying home trying to get things done. I’m trying to get to where I’m not missing out on things just because “I have so much to do!” Yesterday evening,…
Pine Lake Saturday
Saturday we had the kind of day that reminds me of why I was so desperate to move to Pine Lake 3.5 years ago. In the morning, the girls and I walked down to the lake in the early morning. The lake was beautiful in the early morning light. We headed into the beach house…
pine lake memorial day
Despite the dire forecast, the stormy weather held off, and we had a wonderful Saturday of festivities and remembrances with our Pine Lake neighbors. We gathered at the clubhouse just before noon to decorate our cars, bikes, wagons, strollers, scooters. A number of elected officials and campaigning folks turned out. After some remarks from our…
dinner from thin air
Last night I was in the mood for a veggie burger and fries. I was in no mood to go to the store after a long day of running an infinite number of errands. What’s in the cabinets? TVP! Potatoes! Dinner! I soaked the TVP in low sodium veggie broth, added an egg and some…
wild weather today
we had planned to have breakfast and then swim before leaving, but the weather report made me rethink our plans. I hoped that by leaving earlier, we would hit the storms before they had gotten stronger. Maybe that’s true or maybe not, but we had some wild weather. In Louisiana, the clouds started to get…
wanderlust
i am so torn. I love our little Pine Lake hamlet. We’ve spent the past month exploring the new wetlands, watching the ducklings grow. We’ve watched the change of seasons from winter into spring into summer. We’ve celebrated and mourned with our neighbors. I love our city. But I’m ready to go…. And go we…
DIY Public Works
a few weeks ago, Rob was debating what to use his REI dividend on. My answer: a new bike for Camille! Chloe learned to bike a couple of months ago and has been asking to go out on her bike all the time. Camille hated biking, and I was sure that if she had a…
leftover st. patty’s cabbage
I am not a huge fan of cabbage. A little cole slaw here and there is fine, but, other than that, I can take it or leave it. Chloe, on the other hand, can devour shredded raw cabbage when in the right mood. She’s our rabbit. My mom had bought a head of red (why,…
garden party
another week has passed with out a blog entry from me. between the busy season at work and the spring season outside, I haven’t had as much time to think or to blog about what I’m thinking about. I love the work and I love the spring; I just wish they came at different times….
spring-y food
Chloe decided that she wanted a spring dinner to celebrate the coming of spring. i had a hard time coming up with a plan. Lettuce? Eggs? But then Barbara suggested foo with spring in the name, such as spring rolls and spring mix. but what to go with that? Phil had the brilliant idea of…
more than green food coloring
chloe woke up Wednesday morning and decided to add green food coloring to the milk in her morning cereal. last year, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by adding green food coloring to eggs. Somehow neither of those celebratory meals quite hit that “Irish” spot. Wednesday afternoon we headed up to the cabin to spend a…
adventures in cabinet excavations
As I mentioned in Food for (Good) Thoughts, our first step in eating better was to get the cabinets and fridge empty. The objective was to eat or get rid of just about everything. I told the girls that they could eat what they wanted, they just had to eat what was on hand. Okay,…
Food for (Good) Thoughts
The days when we were stranded at the cabin, we ended up not eating very well. Add into the mix too little exercise and too much time to think, I landed in a bit of a funk. Just days after our escape, we had a wonderful visit to the Eastern Market. Imagining life near the…
blue sky, white ground
yesterday morning, as soon as I saw the blue sky, I headed right out to enjoy the beauty of our hamlet. It was wonderful to see its beautiful side as later in the day, i saw the raw edges as well.
snow in Pine Lake
we spent much of the day yesterday waiting. anticipating. and then finally, it came. and dumped a whole lot of snow very fast. the girls and i headed out as the accumulation grew. heavy, heavy snow — great for snowballs! We had a snowball throwing contest. As we tossed snowballs into the lake, a curious…
happy birthday to me!
yesterday was my 39th (there I said it) birthday. That gives me one year until the milestone birthday of 40. Rob and the girls sang Happy Birthday to me and ate cake for me. My parents called and also sang. (Why all this singing? Why not something more interesting?) Mindy asked if I had completed…
