Saturday we had the kind of day that reminds me of why I was so desperate to move to Pine Lake 3.5 years ago.

In the morning, the girls and I walked down to the lake in the early morning. The lake was beautiful in the early morning light. We headed into the beach house for breakfast and were met by a number of our friends. We caught up with neighbors as people came and went. When we finally left, the mobile greengrocer was parked out front. Chloe insisted on a watermelon and a mango. Carrying the mango up the hill wasn’t a problem; the watermelon was a bit cumbersome. Gwyneth chopped it up, only to carry it back down the hill to the beach for an after-swim snack.

The girls swam and played and conversed with a number of neighbors, both kids and adults. We shared our watermelon, toys and chairs. I sat at a picnic table on the beach house deck and worked on some bookkeeping tasks for the neighborhood association.

Later, after we had returned home and Rob came home, the girls and Rob went back down to the beach for a second swim, then Rob went out to eat with some of our Pine Lake friends. It was a vacation day right here at home.
