I wrote years ago about creating a master packing list. About how I thought it was a silly thing. Who could need such a thing? As time has gone by, I’ve come to depend on it. Not to remember the basics but to remind of the little things I like to have a long. Like a stuff sack for shopping. Or an umbrella.
The list evolves. It started out as a “Camping trip” packing list, but then I added “International travel”. The list has swimsuits and long underwear on it. It has sleeping pads and passports on it. But each time I use it, I update and modify and re-organize.
I printed out one copy for this weekend. Camille and I are headed to NYC for the weekend. Rob and Chloe are headed to Florida to camp and kayak for the weekend. And the list covers it all!
Start with a small list, add the things you packed for this trip, and let the list evolve. You’ll never forget underwear again (like one of my girls once did….).
