I got the kids off to school, walked the dog, cleaned and worked until it was time to meet Amy for lunch. After lunch, Phelix and I went for a hike at Arabia. Not long after we got home, the teens and tweens descended. When Rob got home, he took the tweens bowling.

We made hash browns in the waffle iron — Perfect! We took care of things around the house, then went for a hike at Arabia. The girls and I made a tortilla soup for dinner – delicious!
taking the easy road.
The easy way out. Too often easy is looked down upon. But sometimes, easy works. One of my goals in my Energy and Empower year is to get out on longer walks more often. So far this year, I’ve made the effort to take some baby steps towards that goal. I’ve loaded Phelix up into

After a productive morning and a visit from the cleaning people, I had some time to take Phelix out for a short hike at Arabia Mountain before my two afternoon/evening meetings…
Project43++ aka Project44
Earlier this week, I turned 44. Another year has gone by. Like last year, I feel as though I didn’t move ahead enough on my goals. However, I have moved ahead, far ahead… What I have managed to accomplish in the past year and a half makes me proud. I still have a ways to

I got to work and got the girls off to school Mid-morning, Phelix and I went off to take a short hike at Arabia Mountain. Camille came home with friends in tow; Chloe got home after 6:30. Rob got home after I left for the Downtown Decatur Neighborhood meeting. Leftovers for dinner!
baby steps.
Leave it to me to choose the coldest day so far this winter to go on my first “long walk”. Part of my Energy and Empowerment year is to go on a weekly long walk. Sometimes in the woods, sometimes not. Sometimes with Phelix, sometimes not. To make it easy on myself, I decided that

After I worked for a while, Phelix and I took a drive over to arabia Mountain to go on a little hike; he had a great time. I worked more in the afternoon, then Camille and Claire came home. Chloe went home with Jane to ride skateboards. In the evening, we made tempura for dinner;
what’s that feeling? peace.
Walking home from getting my hair cut (and colored) and having had a nice lunch out on a patio (alone), I had a strange feeling wash over me. I paused a moment to try to figure out what it was. It was peace. I’ve been spending months ticking items off of lists in my Happiness

School and work. In the early afternoon, I took Phelix out for a hike at Arabia Mountain. Later, I did carpool to the gym and some errands. Camille got home early and gave Phelix a bath, then helped make dinner. We worked on trip preparations during the evening.
incremental steps forward, but big steps back
Or lots of extra steps for me today. Or hours behind at work. Or “My house looks great FINALLY!” When we moved to Decatur, I gave up the cleaning service that we had for over ten years, even through a move across county. We moved from a large house to a two-bedroom apartment — how

The girls and I took Phelix hiking at Arabia Mountain today. He had a blast playing in the lake. He kept trying to step onto the top of the water and was frustrated that his foot would go through each and every time.

Slowly but surely, Phelix is learning. He still barks, but he’s barking less. He still pees in the house sometimes, but not quite as much. He did very well at his fourth doggie class, too. This week, Phelix got to go on a long walk to our friends’ house where he played in the fenced

No, I’m not talking about Disney … despite our recent whirlwind. No, I’m talking about Arabia Mountain. We’ve “hiked” this DeKalb County Park outcrop a few times in past years but have returned twice in the past month. Chloe gets bored. Camille generally is unreceptive to being out of doors and hiking. But they both
Around Atlanta: Panola Mountain State Park
A gorgeous spring morning in Atlanta deserves an outing! With our new Georgia State Parks pass, we decided to head over to Panola Mountain State Park. Similar to Arabia Mountain, a DeKalb County park, the park features a granite outcrop. Unlike Arabia Mountain, access to the outcrop is limited to guided tours, mostly on the
