The Mandated Wave
People should not move to our city unless they are willing to be friendly. Everyone waves at everyone. It make no difference if you know to whom you are waving…you just wave at everyone who goes by. I have quickly adapted to this way of life…the mandate takes away that fear of being embarassed about

Illusions of Grandeur
The latest “Woman-to-Woman” column “Harm in reading romance novels?” got me thinking about illusions versus reality. (I generally find the Woman-to-woman columns to be staged issues with very little debate occurring, and this one is no exception.) In the end of the column, the suggestion made was to remember that novels are fiction, not reality.
Random Bits
After 3 months of no mobile blogging, I am finally able to email photos from my phone to my blog. I don’t think Google actually fixed the problem, but the merger of AT&T and Cingular gave my phone a new email address, tricking Google into thinking it was a new user? My light summer reading

July Is
National Ice Cream Month To celebrate, we had an ice cream party at our house today. Earlier this week, the girls and I went to Target and bought an ice cream machine. In many ways, it looks like the one I had as a kid (my mom still has it), with one major difference. Not

Bjorn, Urska and ?
Our new house has a stained glass window in the stairs from the main level to the girls’ level. The window features three bears who need names. We came up with Bjorn, and a friend recommended Urska. Any suggestions for the mamma bear?

The Bad Examples
Rob and I had a great time last night going to the Red Light Cafe to hear music from Ralph Covert’s (aka Ralph’s World) more “mature” band, The Bad Examples. I had a great time, and sure wish more folks had turned out. However, I can see that for parents, going out to an adult

We’re Moved and Still Active
We’re still here. Between moving and the death of our kitty Wilma, we have been a little more than overwhelmed. But we are getting there. Today was the last of the insane errands, I think. I have a new driver’s license, no longer have old towels, monitor and books, and have almost adequate shelving. Camille’s

Long Time, No Post
Excuses, excuses. Even as homeschoolers, we’ve been busy with end-of-the-year stuff…Then there’s the kids’ music concerts we’ve been going to. And our “curiousity killed the cat” cat that’s been at the vet for two days now (and probably two more) from some injury, probably due to clumsiness and, of coure, curiosity. Then of course, is
Molly Did It
Ah, well, not really. I can’t blame anyone but myself. I want a dog. A chocolate lab. A dog to go for walks with me. A dog that’s happy to see me. But Rob says I’m crazy. Chloe’s not overly fond of dogs. We will no longer have a big backyard. But I still want
Plastic Bags
While I sadly admit that there are plenty of things that I do that are not environmentally friendly, I work on improving bit by bit. Buying a new house is probably not the most environmentally-friendly thing to do, but we are moving into a neighborhood that is very active in environmental concerns, and I hope

Change of Address
In preparation for our forthcoming move, I have acquired a PO Box in our new city. There is no postal delivery at home there, so it will be our permanent mailing address, and I’ve started to have some mail sent out there. Yesterday we received our first piece of mail at the box. I was

Dance Party
On Saturday, the girls and I went to Baby Loves Disco here in Atlanta. I had mixed feelings about going. It was a gorgeous sunny day and the calendar was filled with Earth Day activities. But we went into a dark loft with loud music, a disco ball and bubbles. While there is probably a

Queen Chloe and the Broken Touch
It never fails. Give something to Chloe, and it gets broken. So it should have come as no surprise to me that she spent lunch yesterday staring at a machine that was destroying a buliding nearby and then announced “I want to be a destruction worker when I grow up!”
Coming to the End
Yesterday, Rob and the girls pre-ordered the last Harry Potter novel at the local bookstore. The store is having a release party for all who pre-order, and we are excited to be able to go (assuming we are in town). I’m very torn. While I’m excited to read a new installment, knowing that it is
