National Ice Cream Month

To celebrate, we had an ice cream party at our house today. Earlier this week, the girls and I went to Target and bought an ice cream machine. In many ways, it looks like the one I had as a kid (my mom still has it), with one major difference. Not only does it have a hand crank, but it also has a motorized crank. We tested it out last night with the hand crank, and it seemed to do a nice job. Today at the party we made more ice cream. The kids also made “kick the can” ice cream, which was a good way to burn off energy. (The photo is of the kids “kicking the can” in the easement across from our house.)

I don’t think we’ll need to make homemade ice cream for a while. A number of people that came brought ice cream and our freexer is overflowing with “Creme Brulee” ice cream, “Green Tea” ice cream, “Strawberry Cheesecake” ice cream and all sorts of exotic flavors, along with good old vanilla ice cream.

We checked out quite a few books about ice cream for Chloe. Camille seems to enjoy them a little more than Chloe, however. One of the simpler ones was: Ice Cream: The Full Scoop
