a decatur evening
While my heart’s home is Pine Lake, tonight I was reminded again why I decided to move here. Camille and I headed out a little after 6pm and first stopped at CVS across the street to get some photos made. We then continued on down the block to Dancing Goats to pick up some coffee
Emergency but not 911
At the last minute I volunteered to work at the Wine Festival in Decatur. With 2200 attendees and Ponce being closed, it is no small festival. Even more last minute due to cancellations, I was asked to be a gate captain. As my instinct is to say “YES!”, I readily agreed. Unfortunately, I had never
HoopJam in Decatur
Now that the weather is starting to cool off a little, I hope that we can start getting out of the house after dinner a few times a week. Tonight after dinner, we headed out to HoopJam on the square. Chloe loved hooping and was very much in her element.

While walking through the Decatur Square this evening, Chloe spotted a watermelon. Not a watermelon that someone had left behind, but a watermelon that was actually growing. When we looked harder, there were actually a bunch of watermelons growing in the tiny little “beds”. Awesome!
zoom!
This morning after work, I walked down to Fire Station 1 for my third ride-along. I had yet to experience a medical/rescue call and had high hopes of someone getting sick or hurt this morning while I was at the station. Not that I truly hope that anyone gets sick or hurt. I just hoped
normal bird behavior?
As Camille and I were walking back from Baby Kroger with our watermelon and corn, we happened across this woman who making some strange gestures. As it turns out, she was pointing out a bird drama going on over our heads. I too stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, mesmerized by the birds overhead.
sneak peek: revolution donuts
Of course, yesterday I posted about my low carb aspirations … and on my calendar today was the super-secret kickstarter pre-opening party at Revolution Donuts. I was NOT going to miss going to a tasting party at a place I had “invested” in. In order to help with my goal, Camille and I walked down
moving day!
Not for us, but for the fire house. By a fun coincidence, it was also the day for my “Citizen Fire Academy” ride-along. When I arrived at the station, they were just moving in from their temporary home at the old Roly Poly up the street. Since I had expected to get to ride on
instagram: yelp kickoff party
For the next two weeks, Yelp’s Passport to Decatur Square! will be participated in by a number of places around the square. Rob and I went over to the kick-off last night, but there were fewer restaurants participating than I had hoped. And 2 of the 3 food samples were of the meat variety…

It was a Decatur day. We walked everywhere we needed to go. In the evening we went to see an author talk at Little Shop and then headed to the square for a bit of the concert.
instagram: Decatur Station
We arrived at the station bright and early this morning …. With very few others around, I was able to get this nice photo.
instagram: king of pops
When we returned from our bike ride over to Avondale for the STEAMFestATL, we treated ourselves to popsicles from King of Pops on the square. Yum!

Chloe worked on logic puzzles while Camille read New Yorker while waiting in line at Taqueria del Sol ….
i graduated today!
Today I graduated (hum along) from Decatur 101 …. but yet I am still having a hard time with living here in Decatur despite having submitting myself to the indoctrination. My Pine Lake is *home* to me. Every time I drive into the tiny city, from my first entry in 2007 until today, the little
instagram: Nothing Ever Happens on My Block
Apparently, there have been some “famous” people (Amy Poehler) hanging around down the block from us this week, filming A.C.O.D.. Our street is down to two lanes and the sidewalk is a little challenging to navigate. But how fun!!
Instagram: Decatur Morning
I went out early to get some coffee and found the roads closed for the marathon. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Decatur this quiet before …

The girls and I went out to Swirlin’ Twirlin’ for “Irish Mint” frozen yogurt and then wandered around the square in order to see what was happening. So many people were out that we almost felt like we were on Bourbon Street, not Ponce!!
Instagram: Evening stroll
After dinner at Ted’s (read Chloe’s review), we went for a short stroll up W PdL.
Digging Deeper in Decatur
I keep thinking about what I wrote the other day in Yeah, Iโm a Decaturite now. and why. I think I was probably overly harsh. I was feeling hurt and lashed out. Why has Decatur always “rubbed me the wrong way” and why am I so reluctant to embrace it now that I live here?
Up and Down
Personally, I’ve been up and down. I have been feeling sick on and off for almost a month now. Today I finally took my temperature. One thermometer says 99.8, the other 102. Maybe I need to buy another one? This not feeling well has interfered with my ability to execute Project41. I don’t have the
