#4 – Give Up Your Self-Defeating Self-Talk

Continuing with the 15 Things You Should Give Up To Be Happy, the fourth item is:

4. GIVE UP YOUR SELF-DEFEATING SELF-TALK
Oh my. How many people are hurting themselves because of their negative, polluted and repetitive self-defeating mindset? Don’t believe everything that your mind is telling you – especially if it’s negative and self-defeating. You are better than that.

This one is the one I need to focus on right now, I think. You know the shoulder angel and shoulder devil representing the conscience? Mine are different. I always strive to do the right thing…. But my “angel/devil” pair is more about “Am I good enough?” And it seems I only have the shoulder devil there, telling me how I do everything wrong. I need to find or listen to that other voice that tells me that I can do good and I do do good. Whatever I do just never seems like enough somehow. But clearly I must be doing well on a few things at least. Not perfect, of course, but I must be doing a few things somewhat okay.
