Considering the “15 Things You Should Give Up To Be Happy”

A while back someone, somewhere posted a link to the blog post 15 Things You Should Give Up To Be Happy. I found the list intriguing and saved the link, but am just now getting back to looking at it more closely. And, as I ramp up to my re-start of my new “Happiness Project”, I’m going to review some of these “15 things”.

1. GIVE UP YOUR NEED TO ALWAYS BE RIGHT
There are so many of us who can’t stand the idea of being wrong – wanting to always be right – even at the risk of ending great relationships or causing a great deal of stress and pain, for us and for others. It’s just not worth it. Whenever you feel the ‘urgent’ need to jump into a fight over who is right and who is wrong, ask yourself this question: “Would I rather be right, or would I rather be kind?” Wayne Dyer. What difference will that make? Is your ego really that big?

Oh, I hate to be wrong. I’ll do whatever it takes to prove I’m right, even when I’m not right. I’ve tried to reel this in and not fight every fight, but I find myself getting dragged in every so often. I think I’m finally realizing that being right all the time is not the quality I want people to think of when they think of me. I’d rather be thought of as being a good listener and being kind and compassionate. I’ll be keeping this in mind as I move forward.
