taking the easy road.
The easy way out. Too often easy is looked down upon. But sometimes, easy works.
One of my goals in my Energy and Empower year is to get out on longer walks more often. So far this year, I’ve made the effort to take some baby steps towards that goal. I’ve loaded Phelix up into Poppy, and we’ve hiked the trail at Arabia three times now.
While I have ideas that I want to branch out and try other trails in the Atlanta area, I keep going back to Arabia. Why? It is easy. Not that it is an easy hike (it is – but so would the others that I’d consider trying); it is easy in that I know how to get there. I know how to park. I know the trail. There are very few hurdles holding me back from getting out there.
Yesterday, for example. I didn’t plan to get out for a hike. But I got my projects done. I got my work done. And I saw that rain is likely on Friday. I had to battle a bit of inertia. If I were going to force myself to try a new hike, the anxieties about learning a new route would probably have held me back from going at all. So I took the easy road. And I got out there for a nice hike on a nice day.
And that’s just fine.
