Mondays are for Dreaming: Coney Island

On the boardwalk

This week’s Monday Dream is once again not my dream but more my daughter Chloe’s dream. Though I admit, this is one that, in some aspects, has much more appeal to me than returning to Disney once again. Chloe’s dream is to move to Brooklyn. Brooklyn!

A strange choice for an eight year old born, and still living, in the suburbs of Atlanta. But yes, Brooklyn. Ironically enough, I was actually born in Brooklyn and lived there as a young child. My parents now live in Texas, so we have no family in Brooklyn for Chloe to want to be near.

No, she likes Brooklyn because when we visit (and we’ve been each spring for five years now) we can walk to toy stores. To restaurants. To parks. To ice cream places. And, much to her joy, we can take a quick subway ride and be at Coney Island. Beach, rides, the best pizza in the world and the Wonder Wheel.

I admit, I harbor fantasies of living in Brooklyn myself. A little free time? Let’s go to the beach. No? Okay, let’s go to the Guggenheim. Wow, what possibilites!
