Mondays are for Dreaming: White Christmas

The holiday season is in full swing here in our little hamlet of Pine Lake. This past weekend, we celebrated with our Pancake Breakfast with Santa, Cookie Exchange and Lighting of the Lake. Our house is decked with a tree, lights and pine rope. Holly, the contemporary Sirius/XM holiday music station is almost always turned on to keep us in the spirit. The first draft of our holiday letter has been written, and the envelopes are being addressed.

But, living in Georgia, something is missing. The “white” part of “White Christmas” just isn’t here. It is chilly; I’ve got my SmartWool socks on. But snow? Well, no… And this year, I just don’t think we’re going to head to anywhere snowy. I’ve been feeling stressed to a breaking point lately with working, homeschooling, traveling and all the rest. I have come to realize that I simply need some downtime in which to take things at a slightly slower, less frenetic pace, or I’m going to fall apart. Maybe after a couple weeks of slowly working towards getting caught up is all it will take, or maybe not.

So, I’m dreaming of the White Christmas we had last year. We woke at home in Georgia and opened gifts, then boarded a flight to Denver. We were talked into a Subaru (thank goodness) by the rental car people, headed west on I-70, then up over the VERY snowy continental divide pass into Steamboat Springs, where my aunt and uncle live. The whole family descended on Steamboat that day, making it a wonderful white Christmas with our very extended family. During our week in Colorado, along with visiting with family, we got to go skiing, sledding, swimming in outdoor steam pools, snowboarding, snowshoeing and more. A very white Christmas indeed!

I am dreaming of having another wonderfully fun and white Christmas like that one day.
