sept 27 – the first day of the “holiday season”

The rule in our house is that Halloween decorations don’t come out until *after* Camille’s birthday. While we do have some “fall” decor, I insist on ignoring the fact that fall starts four days before her birthday…it’s just easier that way — plus it is way too hot here in GA to think aout fall on the “official” start of fall.

We start with the fall and Halloween decorations on September 27th. Then on November 1st, we switch over to fall/harvest/Thanksgiving. The Monday after Thanksgiving, that’s the first day for Christmas decorations (and music). While it may not be popular, given the “tree collection” dates, we wait until January 6th to take down the Christmas decorations — and then put up the Valentine’s Day ones! As soon as those go down, the Easter ones go up (or the St Patrick’s day ones, depending on when Easter is). Finally, once Easter is past, we are done with the decorating, the candy and the craziness.

As soon as we got home from our weekend in Massachusetts, the girls unpacked as fast as hey could in order to get the house all gussied up for Halloween — was it because they love the orange and black? Or because they look forward to celebrating the season of candy?
