But not a page to read.

On Monday afternoon, after returning from Baltimore, we headed out to the Library of Congress to take a tour and learn more about what’s there. We also planned to meet my grad school officemate and his family. As we walked to to the Jefferson Building from the metro stop, we decided to take a turn around the Capitol Building. We didn’t go in, but did see the new Visitor’s Center. We’ll leave that for another trip.

We got into the library just in time for the tour. As a special treat for George Washington’s birthday, we were allowed into the Reading Room, reserved for people with Reader’s Cards. While I believe any adult can apply for a card, you must be 16 to do so. Thus the special treat was extra special for Camille and for my friend’s daughter.

We toured the beautifully decorated building, Jefferson’s library collection and a special Lincoln exhibit while we were there. Both girls seemed to enjoy the tour. For Chloe, it was nice for her to remember having seen similar things at the Atlanta History Center and Ford’s Theatre.

The one disappointment was that we did not get to browse stacks and read books. It is a library after all.
