volunteering: red cross – Step 1

A few months ago, I wrote about how I’ve longed to become a Red Cross volunteer for decades (decades?!?).

A couple weeks ago, while I was working as a public safety (Decatur Police and Fire CAPS) volunteer at the Arts Festival, I was introduced to a Red Cross volunteer, and I begged for an introduction. While I understand that there are proper channels for these things, I also know the benefits of “who you know”.

And thus, I am now corresponding with my new contact while also going through the standard Getting Started as a Volunteer process. Hopefully with a combination of the two I will soon find myself as a true Disaster Response volunteer. A step at a time, even if I am kicking myself for not having started this process twenty years ago. Better late than never right??
