arabia – 10 feb 2017

Chloe did not have a good night’s sleep. Her mouth and face hurts from her new braces. At first, she was unwilling to get up early for a hike. But then she rallied. And we headed out … and Phelix was so unhappy. I feel so guilty that I’m taking him out for a hike today. He loves Arabia as much or maybe even more than I do!

We had a late start, but got to the nature center at 8am on the dot. Robby was making tea. Since we were the only people to show up, he gave us a few choices of hikes. We chose an unmarked trail through a section of land I’ve never visited; I drove us all over there.

Another lovely spot! We squeezed through a crack in the rocks. We heard Melody Rock. We smiled at Smiling rock. We admired the work of the beavers. We saw Arabia Lake from the other side for the first time. We got within feet of my little property.

When Chloe and I get out there, we are *alive*. I fear that if I build a home there, it will become the drudgery that brings me down. So somehow, I need to be there, but really remember to *be* there.
