On our road trip from Galway to the Giant’s Causeway, we decided to stop in Londerry to see the walled city. As we approached the city, we saw that the signs for Londonderry had all been marked up, with the “London” part of the name being crossed out.While there, we learned that the city goes by both names and that the city government has two sets of stationery, some with Londonderry and others with Derry.
Yesterday, saw that the council voted to officially change the name to Derry: Council efforts to change Londonderry name to Derry condemned.
Whatever it may be called, it is a lovely city and made for a good break.
