forbidden planet – 13 jun 2015

The sun sets late here and the sun rises early. And so did I. Lacking the internet and thus the ability to catch up on uploading my photos and updating my blog, I decided to read a “for fun” book while waiting for everyone else to get up and get ready to go explore Dublin. Once everyone was dressed, we finally headed out: Chloe to Starbucks, Camille to Forbidden Planet and Barbara to geocache. Chloe had her frappuccino, Camille bought 10 comics and Barbara found her geocache.

We walked down to Trinity College to buy our tickets for the “Red” Hop-on, Hop-off bus and waited at the stop for one to arrive. There were seats for us all and we rode the bus through Dublin, seeing many landmarks and learning a bit about them all. We hopped off near Jameson’s Distillery. Instead of touring the distillery, we found a playground like in the good old days, and the kids (Camille, Chloe and Rob) played a Simon Says challenge game for a bit. We walked over to the “blue line” of the red bus and waited for a bus. And waited.

The bus finally arrived and we hopped on until we reached the Glasnevin Cemetery. We were all hungry by then, so we went off in search of The Gravedigger Pub. While we found it, we also found out that they were was not serving food today. Instead, we walked back through the cemetery and had lunch at the cafe there. I had a panini and Chloe had soup. Camille’s baked potato came with a side of fries!

After lunch, we hopped on the bus back down to Trinity College via Croke Stadium. At the college, we visited the Book of Kells and the Long Room. Barbara and I went back to the apartment, while Rob and the girls went shopping. Rob, the girls and I met up with Rory at Trinity College soon after. We poked around stores and then into the St. Stpehen’s Shopping Center to look in the joke shop “I want the fart whistle!” and the camic book store and to sit with a coffee for a while. We then strolled through St. Stephen’s Green and then back to the apartment where Barbara made us a light dinner with some bread, cheese, wine and salad. Rory stayed with us chatting until late in the evening.
