Santorini, while small, is too big to get around on foot, so we learned quickly how to use the buses. From what we could tell, all routes ran through the main town, Thira. To get from one city to another, the general route was to take a bus to Thira and then a second bus to the destination. The timetables were a bit confusing – the one I was handed didn’t match that at the Thira station, and the buses didn’t seem to always stick to the schedule.

For the fare, you pay as you get on the bus or while on the bus. Change is provided, so no need to have exact change. Each segment is generally another fare, no transfers.

The buses were fairly clean and not overcrowded, but we were there in low tourist season. Maybe they run more frequently or get more crowded in the high season.

The buses while a bit limiting were a convenient enough way to get around and not have to worry about parking, etc.
