This hashtag drives me batty sometimes.

What’s the point? Are we trying to remember to be grateful and reminding ourselves that whatever the problem is, we can get past it and things will be okay even if it is annoying?

Are we being smug? “My life is so awesome that my worst problem at the moment is *this* silly thing!”

Are we apologizing for whining? Should we never complain about some thing that is annoying us? Keep it bottled up because “it could be worse”?

Exmple: my internet had been going down more and more often. (Thankfully it is has been going strong this past week.) Everyone in the building was getting frustrated.

Yes, of course it is a “first world problem”. But we live in the first world! We have deadlines. We have commitments. We have come to count on the internet being available in our homes 24/7.

Going without internet is not like going without food, shelter, safety, warmth. We know that. That doesn’t mean it isn’t stressful for us.

(I suppose hating on the #firstworldproblems hash tag is a meta #firstworldproblem in some way, isn’t it?)
