While I haven’t been out on a “DAT response” to a fire in some time, I have actually spent three afternoons at the main office learning how I can assist there. While I do hope to go to fires on occasion, I finally realized the unpredictability and the six-hour shifts of being on call doesn’t work well with my schedule and responsibilities. Setting aside three hours a week, however, to go into the office, is much easier for me.
I’ve gone in to discuss what my skills are and am now starting to find a niche of where I can help out. I see many places in the “accounting” and record-keeping where, if I learn all the ins-and-outs, I can help maintain and clean up and simplify. I’m looking forward to going in again this week. Maybe I’ve found the regular volunteer work that I’ve been searching for!
