shelter drill – 1 mar 2014

The past few months have been a bit chaotic. Holiday season, snow day after snow day and then winter break. As such, I have barely stayed caught up at work and fallen behind in all my other projects, including volunteering. I am frustrated that I’ve spent all this time on trainings and have done so little actual helping of others. I can only hope that all this training will be useful as I have more time to give.

This past Saturday, I scheduled time for yet MORE training at the Red Cross Shelter Drill. A hundred or more volunteers came out on a gorgeous Saturday to learn and practice setting up registration, dormitories and feeding for a shelter. Not only did I come away with a better idea of what I might be expected to do, I met and got to know quite a number of other volunteers.

Soon, I will be able to put my skills and training to work (though of course, it would be best if I never did have to help anyone with a disaster!).
