For our summer vacation this year, we headed up to Cape Cod to join my parents and sister and Luis for a week at the beach. The house my mom found was on a lovely little island called “Lieutenant Island” on the bay side of Wellfleet.
This “for residents only” island is connected to the Cape by a causeway with a bridge in the middle. A super high tide, however, climbs high enough to immerse the causeway and make travel between the island and the “mainland” impossible by car. Of course, the week we were there was a full moon and the month after a super moon. Ever trip on or off the island had to be perfectly timed. Even with that, we managed to get ourselves stuck on and off the island a few times during the week.
