sick girl - 3 oct 2012

Chloe goes to school. And Chloe’s sick (I blame that on school). When she’s been sick in the past, I’d have her take it slow, take a little bit of tylenol as necessary and let her body heal itself. But now I’m faced with “The longer she stays out of school, the further she’ll fall behind.” And “Chloe can’t afford to have any unexcused absences right now.”

So, I put on my big girl pants and took her into the pediatrician who has always made me feel immensely proud about the fact that my kids almost NEVER get sick enough to go to the doctor. And didn’t cringe too much when she prescribed a dose of steroids to clear up her lungs a bit.

So not only did I have to take her to the doctor to get a valid excuse, I also have to give her drugs that she probably could have done without if she could have had a couple extra days to let her body heal itself.

Thank goodness I’m much happier with her experience at school this year, or I’d really be wondering if school is worth it.
