Back in June, Rob, the girls and I spent an evening at Medieval Times. Rob and Camille had gone before, but this was the first time that Chloe and I had been. And we had a blast cheering on the Blue Knight…who did not win, unfortunately. At the end, Chloe insisted on staying and getting everyone’s autograph!

This is an entry for Delicious Baby’s Photo Friday.

From my Trekaroo review of Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament in Atlanta:

“Memorable and Fun Dinner Theater Experience for Families”
Our kids have always been fascinated with castles, knights and sword play, even going as far as to take up fencing for a while. Now at 13 and 9, they still love books and movies about medieval times. They look forward to going to the local Renaissance Festival every year and were very excited to have the chance to get to see the stories brought to life and to even be a part of the action at Medieval Times.

Our 9 year-old, Chloe, was thrilled by the whole experience. When entering, we were assigned to the “Blue Kinght’s” section, and Chloe joined the crowds cheering for the “Blue Knight” the entire evening. If banging the plates hadn’t been forbidden, she would have been clanging away. She even bought a blue flag to wave, she was so excited to be a part of the event. The rest of us very much enjoyed the whole experience, but our real joy came from watching Chloe enjoy it so very much.

We had arrived early because of the unpredictability of Atlanta traffic and, before entering, found that there was no food for sale inside the venue, only drinks. The staff was very helpful, offering to bring our hungry girl some crackers, but we chose to get our seat assignment (the earlier you arrive, the closer you are to the front) but not enter right away. Since Medieval Times is inside a mall (Discover Mills), we were able to quickly find a good snack to keep Chloe happy until it was time for dinner during the show. Dinner at the show was overwhelmingly plentiful, even for the vegetarians. None of us were able to finish it all. We started with a nice tomato bisque. For the main meal, the meat eaters had chicken and ribs; the vegetarians had a stuffed pepper, hummus and pita chips and roasted vegetables as well. Dessert was a simple but pleasant pastry. Drink choices were limited, but water was available.

The show, which went on in the arena in the center of the stadium style seating with tables while we ate, kept us all on the edge of our seats. The horses, costumes, lights and acrobatics were excellent. Chloe was blown away. Once the show was over, Chloe wouldn’t let us leave! She insisted we wait for the cast to come out and then had every single one of them sign her blue flag. Every. Single. One. She loved, loved, loved it. I’m thrilled to have been given the chance to experience this dinner theater with her.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful; while the food is included in the ticket, gratuity is not, so be prepared to tip your server at the end of the show. Ours worked hard, and we tipped accordingly. Every time we had a question, from food issues to wondering when the performers would come out at the end, we found a helpful person to answer.

We visited on a Wednesday in the summer, and the venue was not quite half full; the size of the crowd was quite comfortable. There was lots of time to announce the birthday parties and anniversary celebrators and honeymooners as well. While the rates are a bit expensive, I believe a trip to Medieval Times would make a great birthday present for a child who loves castles and knights.

“This review is based on a complimentary visit to Medieval Times. I received no other compensation and the business owner did not state any requirements that I express a particular point of view. The opinions I express are entirely my own.”

My kids loved it at that age too. My son even celebrated his birthday there once. When my daughter was about 12, one of the knights rode over to our section and handed my daughter a rose – she was starstruck and in love.
