Georgia: KIRBO Interpretive Center
When Rob, the girls and I camped at Florence Marina State park lat February so we could hike in Providence Canyon State Park, we wanted to visit the Kirbo Interpretive Center, which “… showcases area wildlife and plants, local history and Native Americans, including artifacts from the prehistoric Paleo-Indian period through the early 20th century.” Unfortunately, the museum wasn’t open before we left around noon on Sunday, so we didn’t get the chance.
As the girls and I drove home from Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park last week, we decided to go a little out of our way and stop by to see the museum.
While it is quite small, both girls enjoyed stopping in and visiting. Chloe loved seeing the animals in the tanks, especially “Crank” the alligator. Camille enjoyed seeing more displays on the Native Americans in Georgia. We found out that the center offers ranger guided hikes to the Rood Creek Mounds, but only for groups of five or more.
While probably not worth making a road trip to visit, it is definitely worth stopping in if you are in the area.
