When I first started planning our spring break, I thought we could see the Gulf of Mexico. The whole thing from Texas to Florida. Hey, we have done crazier things! After some consideration, I decided that Mississippi to the panhandle of Florida would be much more manageable in the short time that we had. Good choice. Instead of spending all our time in the car, we got to ride bikes, sit on the beach and play in the pool.

After a night with friends near the water in Bay St. Louis, MS, the girls and I backtracked to Alabama for two nights at Gulf State Park in Alabama. The camping was okay; I’ll write more on the campground next week.

But the beach (once we managed to get there) was pristine. The first evening we rode our bikes over and walked along the beach as the sun started to set. The beach was almost deserted and quite serene.

The following morning, we ate and cleaned up the site early and headed to the “amenities” beach a little further up the road. While at first it was fairly empty, it filled up as the day went on.

At one point, Chloe spotted a tiny jellyfish in the water near her and ran out screaming. Luckily, I was able to talk her down and convince her to get back in the water…. It would have been a terrible beach week if she had refused to get back in the water!
