Whenever we stay at the Embassy Suites in Myrtle Beach, the girls count on having room service for dinner one night. I’m not sure why; it has never been anything spectacular. I think they simply enjoy the IDEA of it. Or maybe it is for the adventure and hilarity that often ensues.

One time, we called to order and no one answered. We called the front desk, they transfered us, and no one answered. We called again ten minutes later, still no answer. We went down to the restaurant, no hostess there. We walked in and could find no wait staff. We were almost ready to storm the kitchen when at last we found some one to take our “room service” order.

Tonight, we called down to order. And we got an answer on the second ring. But the menu, no, they had very few of the items on it. Granted, the kitchens and restaurants are all under renovation right now, so we were really not surprised. I asked for the “Four cheese pizza.” The response, “Sorry, we only have three cheese pizza.” “Where’d the fourth cheese go?” At the end, the guy asked me if I needed any sides with the pizza — “ketchup? mayo?” Um, no thanks.

The poor guy taking our order was also the delivery guy and ended up making four trips up to our rooms. Honestly, I think the staff is happy for something to do right now. The hotel is pretty much deserted, and everyone from the front desk staff to the Starbucks barista seems to be bored out of their minds.
