The next two or three posts are going to be of the “self-help” variety, making for very, very boring reading. Taking stock helps me stay on track, so bear with me !

As I wrote just a few days after my 41st birthday, I have a list of goals for this coming year. Other than the big diet one, the goals are fairly attainable, especially since they aren’t specific. This is intentional; I want to concentrate on the main goal (losing weight) and slowly advance on the others.

Today, on the first day of February, I want to review my Project 41 goals ten days after I began to work on them.

Progress:

  • Diet: I have kept within my Weight Watchers points for the most part but haven’t been militant about recording my points. I have lost 8 pounds in ten days. I know that I won’t maintain this pace, but it has been a great motivator.
  • Photography: I have been taking better photos, but I know I can’t really get much better without taking some sort of class. I’ve been interested in a couple classes, but I already have plans for the days they’ll be offered.
  • Travel: We haven’t gone anywhere in the past ten days, but I have planned trips to Providence Canyon, Myrtle Beach, Disney and NYC. I am working on Saint Louis and the Bahamas plans as well. And all of these are before the end of April; maybe I went a little overboard with this goal?
  • Walking: I have managed to get in 9K+ steps on 7 of the past 10 days. I need to work harder on this goal for sure. Now that I have a little more time, I hope to make sure I get in my steps.
  • Clothes: I bought myself new clothes from LLBean and Target. I also bought myself new boots from Zappos. Unfortunately, I’m pleased with only a couple of the things I bought. I suppose it takes practice to figure out what it is that you will really like and what will look okay on you. Plus, the pants I got from LL Bean are already starting to feel a little loose.
  • Health: I have flossed everyday. I have a dentist appt coming up and plan to make doctor and eye doctor appointments by the end of March.

February goals:

  • Diet: Keep track of all points and keep within limits.
  • Photography: Keep taking photos and looking for a good course.
  • Travel: Plan another camping trip for Feb/Mar. Get play tickets and book hotel for NYC. Plan trip to St. Louis.
  • Walking: Walk 10K steps every day unless there’s a tornado warning all day long.
  • Clothes: Hold off on this goal for now while the weight is coming off fast. In March, buy clothes for the Bahamas.
  • Health: Floss every day. Go to the dentist. Make doctor and eye doctor appointments by the end of March.

I’ll review progress again at the end of February.
