The frenetic pace of our moving activities is finally slowing down. We have a few more piles in the garage to deal with, but they will be gone on Saturday. A few trips to Goodwill and a single trip to the dump — we’ve cancelled the 1-800-GOT-JUNK appointment as the piles appear to be quite manageable on our own.

The condo, while not yet put together, is getting close. We need to attach the end tables to our bed, hang a bunch of things on the walls and organize the shelves in the laundry room and the closet in the office. We have a few things to sell on eBay. I have a (large) pile of photos and other “sentimental” things to work my way through.

In Praise of Slowness

I’ve even had time to start reading again. Yesterday, the book that caught my eye on our downsized bookshelves was In Praise of Slowness: Challenging the Cult of Speed by Carl Honore. I now remember the phase I went through years ago (maybe a decade?) of trying to simplify my daily life, take things slower, be more mindful and in the moment. Granted, I cycle in and out of this mindset every so often, but now I’m ready to try again and make it stick. With our simpler lives in our new home, I’m hoping to find a slower pace. In fact, this is going to become one of the focuses of my Happiness Project which I’ll start tackling again after Thanksgiving.
