Travels: Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel

For a couple of years now, the girls and I have been talking about returning to chattanooga for a couple of days. We wanted to get back to the aquarium as well as visit some of the Lookout Mountain attractions such as Rock City and Ruby Falls.

When I saw that Lunch Money would be playing a concert in Chattanooga, I figured we could use that as our excuse to finally return, even if only for a night. Staying for the night was actually a big part of my plan — I’ve always wanted to stay at the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel.

Walking into the lobby of the hotel, you immediately sense this is different than your average Marriott or Hilton. The lobby is what was once the “Terminal Station”, an impressive building! After checking in, we found our way to our room, or car. On the tracks and platforms behind the station, we found our room – half a train car! With a queen bed, a day bed and a trundle, there was plenty of room for the four of us to sleep.

After checking out the “room” and placing our backbacks up on the luggage racks over our heads, I took the girls over to the station to get ice cream and then to one of the three pools at the hotel. While I chose to stay at the Choo Choo for the novelty of sleeping in a train car, the hotel does also have “regular” hotel rooms.

We woke to a lovely, if very, very muggy morning. The gardens around the platforms were quite lovely. When the girls woke, we stepped down out of our car and headed into the station for a fairly standard hotel buffet breakfast; kids eat free!

The novelty of the hotel certainly made it worth splurging a little on a hotel in Chattanooga!
