The finale of our Thanksgiving celebrations last weekend was “Light Up Blue Ridge”. Each year, the celebration has grown and grown. I suppose there is no surprise there. That’s what happens. My mom went down early to practice with the tubas. When the rest of us arrived, we had to park in the new auxiliary lot, so many people were already milling around. Chloe quickly wrote a letter to Santa; I wonder what was on it.

The tubas started to arrive. A little later, the chairs for the tubas arrived. And were set up right on the train tracks. While the tubas (including my mom on euphonium), played carols for the Tuba Christmas, the train arrived, carrying Santa and Mrs. Claus. A few of the tuba players seemed to be concerned about the fact that they were playing on the tracks, but, of course, the train never goes that far down the tracks (I suppose there is a remote possibility of brakes failing?).

After the concert, Chloe, as always, wanted to wait in line for a balloon — this time a candy cane shaped creation. We wandered in and out of various shops. Having signed up for Small Business Saturday, I didn’t cringe too much at the price of the tree identification book which Rob purchased at “the bird store”.
