Sunday morning, as we prepared to head out to our third full day of Austin City Limits (full days at a festival are my excuse for not having posted recently), I asked Chloe to get my camera for me. She carried it carefully, but only after having shoved the compact flash card into the camera upside down, breaking some pins. My camera! My dear Digital Rebel which has gone withe me everywhere for years! Scotland, France, Japan, Turkey, Mexico…. it has survived being banged around and beaten up. But, finally, it met its match in Chloe.

A few months ago, I realized that my camera had way exceeded its expected life (it came in the mail on 27 Sept 2005). Rob looked into replacement options already; I need another Canon, since I’ve got three very nice Canon lenses and a flash (which I still need to learn how to use properly). On Monday, I headed into the nearby Wolf Camera with my list of possible Canon bodies. Wolf no longer carries Canon bodies in the store. Online only. I had already gone a full day without my camera — I wasn’t going to go another day!

We then headed into Austin to Precision Camera, a local camera store. And walked out with a nice new Canon Digital Rebel T1i. I could breathe again. I’m not a great photographer, but somehow, I feel more complete with a (somewhat) good camera within reach.
