Our mini-retreats last weekend and this weekend have provided a fascinating study in contrasts. Last weekend we were in Panama City Beach; today, the girls and I headed in the opposite direction to the Pigeon Forge area to stay at a waterpark resort, Winderness in the Smokies (I haven’t spotted the wilderness yet).
At this “rustic resort” just east of Knoxville, we have seen far fewer tattoos than at PCB, We haven’t seen any alcohol anywhere, there are lifegurads everywhere and the rules are strictly enforced. Of course, there’s no oceanfront nor ocean view room, not at any price, here in TN.
The similarities (not including having a Wonder Works down the street), despite the contrasts, are more striking. Everyone here is happy and friendly and having fun, just like last weekend. People are relaxed here, comfortable with themselves and with being here. Everyone is courteous and spreading the joy of a good time. How nice it is to be in a place where people are relaxing and enjoying themselves…
