One of our favorite CDs this year is A Family Album from The Verve Pipe. If you don’t have this CD yet, go check them out, please? We listen to many, many CDs a week, yet this CD has remained in our car for months and months and is requested again and again. The fullness of the sound, the moving lyrics and the joy of the songs keeps it in full rotation here at GBK. In fact, we’ve never featured the same CD twice, but this one is probably going to be featured again very soon.

A few months ago we headed up to the XM Kids Place Live Rumpus Room to see The Verve Pipe live in concert for the first time. I was blown away. The girls were blown away. The KPL programmer/hosts were blown away. We had no idea what to expect, but the show was one of the best we had ever attended. In the Rumpus Room. Anywhere. Want to know more? Read about it in my concert recap.

Since then, I’ve been hoping they’d make it to Atlanta, and this weekend they did! We took our out of town guests with us to the show at Eddie’s Attic, ten minutes (not ten hours) from our house. As we were waiting in line to enter, Donny came out, and I was so happy to see him and tell him we were there for an encore show! After we went in (to our front, front row tables), I chatted a bit more with Donny about how everything was going. We love the CD so much and had such a great time at the last show, we wish them all the best in their ventures. Unfortunately, Griff had suffered a back injury…but he still managed to make it onto the stage, squeezing past our front row table, multiple times.

The show at Eddie’s Attic? Despite having seen it before at XM and listening to the awesome CD a zillion times? Not a disappointment, not all all. We fell in love, all over again. It was an amazing show! While we don’t love the covers they did, we do know that those in the audience who had not heard them before, appreciated the familiarity, but the original songs are the ones that really get us. The entire band is amazing. Donny is wonderful on the drums and such an integral part of the repartee. And Lou, dear Luigi, your secret smile is so infectious! We just can’t get enough. I hope you will come back to Atlanta again soon; if not, we’ll travel your way in the next few months, just for that boost. Rock on!

(Addendum: They will rock on with our good friends over at Spare the Rock…. Tune in next week for the guest DJ set from The Verve Pipe!!!)
