Instead of randomly opening holiday cards as they trickle in between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day, we have made a tradition of stacking the envelopes in a special place and then opening the whole pile as a family activity on Christmas Eve. It’s a fun time and a way to help temper the Christmas Eve energy level and focus on something other than the heap of presents under the tree.

This year we had such an early flight for Christmas that I didn’t want to stay up late on Christmas Eve, so we skipped our tradition. Instead, I carried the cards off to Colorado. But we never got to them there. So I carried them home. Yesterday we finally got to opening them. What fun! I love reading the letters and seeing the photos from everyone!
