I have a fond memory of camping as a kid. Sleeping in the tent, drinking hot tang and playing in the “woods” around the site.

In fact, Rob and I registered for a tent, sleeping pads, a camp stove, etc. for our wedding and took it all with us to go camping at Cinnamon Bay National Park on St. John, USVI. We went camping a bit in Maryland, but then once we had Camille, we rarely went anymore. In fact, I think our last camping trip was BEFORE Chloe was born. What happened?

This past weekend, Rob took the kids to Florida and I went camping (5 miles from home, but still camping) with my book club. We cooked over the camp stove, sat around the campfire, and slept in tents. In fact, I slept in my 20 year old LLBean (has the “old” LL Bean label) sleeping bag, with no pillow and no sleeping pad. And it was FUN!

This was good practice for me. I’m taking the girls camping in a few weeks. I believe that we will have some local friends with us — we are heading to LEAF, and I am very much looking forward to it.
