Thanks to Facebook, I realized that Cathy and Marcy would be at Wolf Trap today, performing in their “Banjo to Beatbox” series (I think all day I wrote it backwards — apologies!). We arranged to meet there with a French coworker of mine whom we never met up with while in Nice last week. I’d never been to Wolf Trap and looked forward to visiting. At first, we saw a stage with a bright, sunny, HOT lawn and worried, but after buying tickets, we were directed to a WONDERFUL theater in the woods, aptly named “Theater in the Woods.”

Unfortunately, photos and videos were outlawed by the park rangers, so I was unable to take any nice photos, but I did manage to take a few without ending up in federal jail …

The show was fantastic! We’ve only ever seen Cathy and Marcy perform a couple songs at a Bill Harley concert, but they are so well known that I knew about what to expect. And I’ve listened to their brand new CD Banjo to Beatbox a few times, but I was not prepared for how amazing Christylez Bacon would be and how well the trio would interact in the show.

We greatly enjoyed the spoon playing contest, the banjos and the setting. And the little boy Jessie?, who got up on stage to play washboard and then banjo, really was fantastic!!! Closing with “This Land Is Your Land,” while not unexpected, really lets us finish on a high note. We enjoyed meeting Chistylez Bacon after the show, too.
