transit museum - 3 may 2009

I woke up early on Sunday and tried to catch up on all the videos and photos I had taken on Saturday. But by 11am, the kids were still asleep and I was more than ready to get out of the hotel and do something. Unfortunately, the drizzle turned to rain…we found breakfast (the girls really wanted donuts, so I had to put off my bagel for a day). Camille looked in the tour book for something to do. I checked her list and realized that the NY Transit Museum really was not all that far away! Not far away, but by the time we got there I was soaked…

Just as we walked in, a craft project was starting up and we decided to check it out. The kids made some pretty fun horse and carts! Chloe worked so hard on hers that she was the last kid to finish. Upstairs, which was really downstairs, one level below ground, were 15 different kinds of working turnstiles, two different buses and so much more. Everything is quite hands-on, useable and fun for the kids.

Then downstairs, in a subway station were so many subway cars that I lost count. We went in and out of them, tested the seats, noting how the cars have changed through the years. The girls had so much fun playing in a subway station!

On out way back to the hotel, we stopped in a cool kindie bookstore and bought a new game that we played while eating pizza at a real pizzeria. I’m so glad we didn’t slog into Manhattan, because Brooklyn was so much fun!
