It was too chilly for them to want to stay out long, their friend across the street had homework to do and I wanted to cook dinner. What could they do? I had them break out one of their Christmas gifts, watercolor paint sets. I asked them both to paint at least one winter scene. And they did. And they had fun. And I was relieved. No begging for movies, no begging for video games, no whining, no demanding.
