After a late night arrival, everyone was slow to get going on Saturday morning. Rob ran out for bagels while the rest of us picked up and got ready for the day.

We decided to drive over to Alexandria and visit the riverfront and the Torpedo Factory. Rob and I had gone there back when we lived in MD over a decade ago, and it is still awesome. Given how much the girls like seeing artists at work, it was a great place to go! Not only are there painters and sculptors, but there are artists working with metal, fiber, and more! Camille particularly liked some of the fiber and fashion art. Chloe again enjoyed various types of pottery.

I was a little embarrassed by Chloe newfound joy of numbers. She read off the price of every work of art that was for sale. The exhibit currently running was Travis Graves’s Finding Equilibrium. We were all fascinated by the “floating” logs. Really amazing.

On the third floor of the factory is the Alexandria Archaeology Museum. There were some hands on exhibits that the girls really enjoyed, as well as a nice exhibit about archaeological finds in Alexandria.

“I’m Hungry” Chloe hit her limit. We went outside and listened to a ten year old play trumpet on the plaza, then went into the food court, where the girls ordered grilled cheese sandwiches, I got a falafel (that very much disagreed with me) and Rob a gyro. We ate outside overlooking the Potomac, then went for a walk though the cobblestone streets of old Alexandria. It was a gorgeous fall day!

The day ended in a less that fun way — we stopped in at Target while we were over that way. We bought dresses and winter coats and boots and shoes for the girls. I bought an outfit and shoes. And we bought Wii Fit. Too much shopping, but I am happy that we got most of what we needed/wanted in one stop. (The nice clothes were necessary…coming soon!)
