On the advice of a friend, today we opted to visit the US Botanic Garden. Rob and I had visited there years ago when we lived in Maryland, and I loved it. I can’t pass by a flower without taking its picture. With film and developing costs, that was quite prohibitive, but these days with digital cameras, it just takes a few moments to delete all those photos that I don’t want to keep.

The weather today was a gorgeous, crisp fall day, perfect for walking through the outdoor gardens. The girls loved the plants and the flowers. We headed inside the Conservatory and wandered around, spending time in the kids’ garden and walking on the catwalk over the jungle. I took 200 hundred photos. Camille wanted to go to the fountain in the property just south of the conservatory, but the fountain there wasn’t running.

The girls have become pros at seeing how many seconds are left on the cross signals and at feeding their metro cards to the metro ticket machines. It is a nice taste of city life for them!
