A morning spent packing, organizing and washing dishes. Not too rushed, not too exciting. At the Shinjuku station, we got some pastries and coffee drinks for the train. The Narita Express made it super easy to get to the airport!

At the airport, we had to go through inspection to get in from the train station. Then the check-in line was enormous. The girls and I went to the gift shop while Rob staked out our place in line. Then through security. Then through immigration to leave the country. Whew. The plane ride was unremarkable, except that when we got to Atlanta, Chloe thought she was one day closer to her birthday. Nope. “But we went through night!” Yes, but we actually landed earlier than we left Tokyo — how confusing is that.

Through immigration, then got out bags, through customs, recheck bags. Here’s the interesting part. Usually, we need to the go through security to get into the airport to take the train to the baggage claim. This trip, they led us out an emergency exit onto the tarmac, where a bus drove us to baggage claim, saving us having to go through security to take the train! Got our bags (for the second time), found the bus to the parking place, car started, home. I went to bed and slept for 12 hours. Now it is time to play catch up from having been gone for 18 days … and eat and do all those things that we missed so much. I’m counting the minutes until Target opens 🙂

Welcome home! Your trip sounded so wonderful…and so exhausting. I am thinking you need a vacation from your vacation 🙂 We leave for our own vacation in 2 days…
