Japan Trip, Day 3 (Breakfast + Promenade)

We never got up from our afternoon nap. When Rob got back from his dinner, he crashed too. Chloe was awake before 5am. We relaxed a bit and slowly got up for the day. Finally, at 6:30 we headed down to the breakfast buffet. Not much different from yesterday. The black sausages caught my eye, though. Squid ink sausage! Hmm. Pancakes were replaced by french toast sticks and the onion rings had been replaced by potato wedges. Spaghetti and tomato sauce were still there, as were the seaweed omelets. We hadn’t eaten much of a lunch and had missed dinner, so we had a nice big breakfast.

After breakfast, we headed the other way along the beach, past the chapel. The hotel strongly advertises its chapel and banquet rooms as a prefect wedding locale. A “greek isles” style chapel looks a little out of place, but it is pretty.

We walked further up the promenade, then down along the street. The street side of the hotel is not geared towards tourists at all. Just a regular dingy thoroughfare.

I always thought of the Japanese as heavy smokers, but we have seen almost no one smoking here. There are signs of smoking (cigarette machines and downdraft tables) but we have not seen any actual smokers at the hotel.

Your breakfast buffett sounds interesting. Even for the carnivore that I am…squid ink sausage sounds really gross. Did you try it?! Sounds like you guys might be getting over the jet lag. Maybe? So…you are at your hotel till Sunday…and then where are you off to?

No, I didn’t try it. The girls and I are vegetarians. Rob tried it and said it tasted like regular sausage, dyed with the ink. Not really over the jet lag; we were up around 5am or so. I hope we make it later tonight and actually get to dinner.

Sunday is Kyoto/Hiroshima, then Hakone, then finally Tokyo…
