Since my parents have been listening to Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver and I have read part of it (I didn’t finish before I had to return it to the library), we set out today to see what local food is to be had around here in Blue Ridge. We went to the local orchard, and it seemed that most of their “homegrown” food was in fact not local. How difficult it must be to eat locally!!!

I wonder if it is like eating organic a few years ago before it became hip? And once organic did become the norm, organic has taken on a new, not-so-nice meaning. What will become of a “local” label? Will it hurt more than it helps? Or will local be stronger than that? It will be interesting to see what happens with this movement.
