Somebody’s Watching Me
Between this video from caspar babypants (aka Chris Ballew from The Presidents of the United States of America)) and Absolutely Mindy‘s wacky ideas, Chloe has been obsessed with obtaining a package of googly eyes. Finally, Rob bought her some the other day. I was sitting at the dining room table, working on Christmas cards yesterday,

Meet Abby, My new AirBook
or, Why I love Apple. I’m sure she was thinking to herself while shaking her head, “I have to convince this woman to take a free computer? Is she nuts?” The tale doesn’t start out so nicely. In 17 months since I bought my first Mac, an AirBook, I had a love/hate relationship with her.

One of THOSE Days
You know. My to-do list is finally under control. Between work, exercise, homeschool and everything else, I SHOULD have had more time for other things. But, instead, I managed to plant 10 mums and edit a little video. Sigh.
Our Homeschooling Experience: Part 1
The Beginning Back when I was pregnant with Camille, I read just about every book on pregnancy, birth and infants that I could get my hands on. Once Camille was born, I turned to reading everything I could about childrearing. Needless to say, books regarding various “educational philosophies” were amongst those that I read. I
End of Summer…Please?
Despite the continuing high temperatures and sweaty foreheads, today marked the end of summer for us. Yes, there are many “end of summer” days in our house. And I keep hoping that each milestone will truly bring an end to this blasted summer. I wish I could say “Yes, September 22nd, the weather will be
Photo Friday: Warm
Photo taken on 17 Jul 2010. Warm isn’t hot. Right now, we are still HOT. The word “warm” makes me think of bundling up against chilly weather, and I’m lacking photos of that nature at the moment! Yes, I realize that it is not Friday, but Thursday. However, I’ve decided to begin submitting my weekly
Days 3 and 4 of the Staycation
I think I’ve been non-sequential in my recording of days, but who’s counting, right? On Wednesday, we continued with our “hometown touring” by heading down to the Fox Theatre to see “The Sound of Music”. I put on a skirt for the first time in two years and was please to see that it has
she’s distracted.
So I’m feeling pretty low at the moment. Homeschooling Chloe is incredibly different than homeschooling Camille. It’s like night and day, and, honestly, it is driving me nuts. Camille, for the most part, knows how to sit down, look at the list of tasks for the week, figure out what she needs to do for
Day 2 of the “Staycation”
I can’t remember the first time we went to Fernbank….I have vague memories of my mom, Camille and I trying to meet up with a mom’s group, but not finding them. Moreover, we were confused by the map (Lavista and Briarcliff do, in fact, cross twice on our side of town). We have been members
homeshooling year begins
A few weeks ago, the girls and I decided that we would begin our 2010-2011 homeshooling year on Monday, Aug 16th. The classes they are planning to take with our homeschool group don’t start until mid-September, but if we started their other curricula that late, we’d be schooling into June, something we’d like to avoid.
Crash and Burn
For the past two weeks, I’ve been working like crazy to pare down my massive “to do” list. By Friday, I felt that I had almost conquered it, so, with much happiness, booked a weekend at the beach for the family. We headed out Friday afternoon and had a wonderful time not doing anything —
Je veux un cafรฉ, s’il vous plaรฎt.
I don’t have a knack for learning languages. In high school, I took five years of Spanish, which served me well in grad school. In college, I took three years of Japanese, which, well, hasn’t helped much, other than being able to understand bits and pieces when we were in Japan a couple of years
Reading about Turkey
When preparing for a trip, I always like to read. Not just the travel books, but historical books, historical fiction, travel narratives, fiction, just about anything I can get my hands on. For my own future reference, of for yours, here is a list of some of the books I read or skimmed before our
