astroboy
while in Japan last year, we stopped in a huge bookstore in Kyoto. Camille had been interested in manga for a while, and I figured I might as well test the waters myself. I picked up two different books. One was the manga version Tale of Genji, a classic tale written in 1023AD. The other was the first book in the Dororo series. While a bit more “violent” than I would like, I was fascinated by it and ordered the next two from amazon (the one I bought in Japan was, not surprisingly, printed in the US).
Having enjoyed Dororo, I moved on to the Buddah series by the same author Osamu Tezuka. Soon, I came to the realization that this author, Osamu Tezuka, is quite famous….
I started ordering the Astroboy movies from Netflix; the girls and I both really enjoy the anime episodes. Now I find out that AstroBoy is coming into vogue again and is going to be released as a new movie! Whoop!
I know that I will either end up buying or borrowing the Astroboy books; manga is a great diversion from the more academic texts that are piling up on my end table.
