Mission Downsize: Day 36
Aren’t we done yet?? No, but look how far we’ve come so fast!
Our house is empty on the two top floors; we only have the storage room and garage left to empty. We now have a storage unit rented for things like holiday decorations, kayaks, the rooftop carrier and the tent. Soon we hope to have a third parking spot here in the condo lot so Evie has a place to stay.
Friends signed a lease to rent our house. While it would have been nice to sell it quickly, renting may end up working out well. Perhaps the market will recover a little bit and we can get a better price for it. Maybe we can get some type of investment property tax break. At the very least, it is good to have money coming in almost as fast as it is going out !
Saturday will be our final garage sale (I hope). After that, I’ll probably call the Kidney Foundation or “Got Junk” to haul away the dregs. I have a few items that I’d like to get to specific people, but scheduling has been quite complicated. The final big item to find a new home for is the treadmill..
Over here in Decatur, we are mostly moved in. There are a few IKEA items waiting to be built (our bed!! yes, we’ve been sleeping on a mattress on the floor for three weeks now). We need to get shelves in the laundry room for storage. Other longer term items – a dresser or two for clothes, artwork up on the walls instead of floors, ceiling fan/light for the girls’ room and living room, cabinets and counter for the laundry room, better/more towel racks for the bathrooms, new window treatments for all the windows.
Between moving, getting Chloe started in school, downsizing, camping at LEAF, and a major release at work, I’ve fallen behind in just about everything. This week, I’m finally starting to be able to claw myself out of the pit … I can’t wait for the move to be complete – one or two more weeks of short term stuff, then we can tackle the longer term stuff at an easier pace.
